Note - This essay is mostly just a bunch of images, videos and comparatively few words. Enjoy.

I came across this tweet the other day -

As it says. Zuck nailed it.

This is extremely hard to do. Especially at the scale that Mark Zuckerberg operates at. He is probably one out of maybe less than 100 individuals in the world capable of executing like this.

Here is the stuff he showed in 2016.

Nailed it.

"Nailing The Future" at this level and with such specificity is just astonishing.

2 Wins Already and 2 Years Still Remain

As of 2024, Zuck still has two years to refine the two wins in AI (Llama ecosystem) and VR / AR (the Meta Rayban).

The Meta Raybans are truly the first thing that are adopted by mainstream normies. But truly the next gen system is Project Orion. I think it should be out to public right on time around 2026.

Llama is a clear winner in open source AI and the pace of Meta's AI division means it is always on the bleeding edge.

The "Connectivity" Miss

The only miss in the entire roadmap is "Connectivity" which as of now Starlink from SpaceX is nailing it.

As a fun aside - Starlink already live in USA, and it is coming soon to India. Mukesh bhai is fighting Musk bhai via TRAI as of Oct 2024. More on the battle here. Amazon also has a competitor to Starlink called Kupier in the works. I wrote more about it here.

Coming back to Zuck, Meta tried multiple attempts at Connectivity so far like Free Basics (Internet.org) and a giant solar drone that provides internet, but none of them succeeded.

I would still not rule out Zuck because it is a long term goal, measured in multi decade. Even if it doesn't happen by 2026, Meta might still "Nail It".

Zuckerberg's response when asked about "Connectivity" (atleast in my head).
